About Susan

Personal Profile

Susan Santee Peery

Susan was raised in Charleston, West Virginia and received her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Her first teaching position upon graduation was in Kanawha County as a Head Start teacher. After moving to Texas, she earned a master’s degree in reading from UTPB and worked as a Literacy Specialist, supporting change efforts in thirteen elementary schools in San Antonio, TX. Upon the realization that the principal is the person who can make the most difference in schools, she earned a second master’s degree in the Principalship at Trinity University. She had the privilege of learning directly from Thomas Sergiovanni, who authored the book, The Principalship.

After serving one year as an assistant principal, Susan began her journey as a principal. She served three different schools and districts as a change-agent principal. Susan has 39 years of experience as an educator and over 25 years of experience as an educational leader.

She is also the proud mother of two fun, strong, independent young women. She felt called to return to her home state of West Virginia in March 2021 to serve as a Leadership Coordinator for the West Virginia State Department of Education and to look after her ninety-year-old mother who served West Virginia in education for over 50 years.  Striving to make a difference for principals, she decided to pursue her mission as a consultant, focused on systems, structures and processes to accomplish the work that matters.
